Alexander Hume Ford (1868-1945)


Alexander Hume Ford was one of the main surfers who helped revive surfing during the first two decades of the Twentieth Century, helping to found the Outrigger Canoe Club and promote George Freeth and Duke Kahanamoku as surfing’s first stars of international stature. While promoting Hawai‘i to the rest of the world, he also helped start board surfing in Australia and the East Coast of the United States. “I thought Duke Kahanamoku did that,” I can hear you say.
